Granite City Food & Brewery Opens In Franklin

The Minnesota chain, Granite City Food & Brewery is slated to open their latest location in Franklin tomorrow, February 5th.  Located at 1864 W. McEwen Drive, the new restaurant / brewery sits next door to the Drury Plaza Hotel and down the street from Franklin's beloved Whole Foods.

Last week I had the opportunity to visit the new Granite City, meet their staff, sample their food, and most importantly, try their beers.  The brewery offers five year round beers, along with a handful of rotational seasonal offerings, all of which are brewed with their trademarked "Fermentus Interruptus" - a process in which the wort is brewed at Granite City's central brewing facility, shipped to their stores by tanker, then pitched with hops and yeast for the finished product at the local facility.  The beers I tried included Broad Axe Stout (An Oatmeal Stout), Brother Benedict's Bock (A German Bock), Wag's American Wheat, Duke of Wellington India Pale Ale, Norther Light Lager (An American Lager), and Two Pull (A blend of Northern Light and Brother Benedict's) all of which clock in bellow 6% ABV.  While admittedly none of the offerings were life changing, they serve their purpose by offering a great counterpart to Granite City's food offerings.  All of the beers pack a nice crisp and clean taste and would be great on a hot summer day or paired with food.  At the end of the day, Granite City feels like a restaurant first and a brewery second, but if you're looking for a good meal and a beer, it is well worth a visit.
